Scope of Work: New covered riding arena to replace existing open-air riding ring. The covered ring will host horseback riding lessons of up to 20 horses, riders and instructors, and will serve as a place to exercise horses during inclement weather.

The new arena is a 125′ x 225′ pavilion-like structure with transparent, seasonal enclosures. This allows two group riding sessions to be taught simultaneously during bad weather. The building is a steel structure with metal siding and a standing seam metal roof. Twenty garage doors on all four sides of the building provide the seasonal enclosure of the riding space. These doors have perforated bottom panels to allow the FEMA-required unrestricted flow of flood water in and out of the building.

Throughout this project, there has been careful consideration to stormwater management. Several cisterns collect runoff from the roof for use in the arenas’ dust control system. An overflow pipe delivers excess runoff to planter boxes located on each side of the arena. The sand paddock around the existing open-air arena has been planted with evergreens, shade trees, shrubs, native hedges, grasses and perenials to further capture stormwater and filter pollutants. These measures greatly reduce Meadowbrook’s current freshwater usage, sediment runoff and ambient dust on the property.
